Role: Head of Financial Reporting

Overview

Our client, a global commodities trading firm, is seeking a Head of Financial Reporting to lead the preparation, analysis, and delivery of accurate and timely financial statements and management reports. This senior leadership role will oversee reporting across complex trading activities, legal entities, and global jurisdictions, and serve as a key partner to the CFO, risk, operations, and regulatory teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of internal and external financial reporting, including monthly closes, quarterly board reporting, and annual audited financials
• Manage the consolidation and presentation of financials across a range of legal entities, including trading, warehousing, logistics, and holding companies
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (US GAAP / IFRS) and regulatory requirements (e.g., CFTC, FERC, NFA)
• Lead the monthly P&L close and reporting process, partnering closely with front office, trade support, treasury, and operations
• Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting tools, and internal controls
• Collaborate with tax and legal on entity structuring and financial statement presentation
• Manage audit relationships and coordinate the year-end audit process with external auditors
• Mentor and lead a team of accountants and reporting analysts

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or equivalent designation preferred
• 10+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
• Prior experience at a commodities trading firm or within financial services with exposure to trading books and mark-to-market accounting
• Strong understanding of derivatives accounting, physical inventory valuation, and hedge accounting
• Excellent technical accounting knowledge (US GAAP and/or IFRS), particularly related to financial instruments
• Proficient in ERP and reporting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or trading-specific platforms)
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
