Job Description Overview of position: The Dining Services Staffing Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Dining Services and is responsible for managing the staffing plan on a longterm and shortterm basis. The Dining Services Staffing Manager oversees Dining Services staffing including, but not limited to calling dining employees to fill shifts, tracking overtime usage, developing intersession schedules, processing payroll, and approving time off requests for the operation.
Responsibilities: - Weekly monitor, track, and approve payroll for all dining employees. Ensure appropriate paid time off (PTO) is being recorded for each employee including approving advanced requests for PTO.
- Issue documentation to employees when time is misused.
- Contact available dining employees based on the designated process to fill open shifts and assign overtime as needed to ensure the continuous operation of the dining program.
- Assist in addressing inquiries from employees as it relates to assigning overtime and staffing assignments.
- Create daily deployments based on staffing schedule.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources to develop and assign staff for intersession and holiday periods.
- After consultation with Sous Chef on duty, print menus for management to display.
- Maintain and distribute any policies and procedures as needed to support the operation of Dining Services.
- Maintain the large employee bulletin board as needed, discarding outdated information.
- Provide excellent customer service for all inquiries made to Dining Services from the on and off campus communities through email, phone, and in person.
- Provide operational and customer service support for catering.
- Manage & maintain the Vassar Dining management office space
- Provide managerial support for the operation during management meetings and intersession periods when other managers may not be available
Required knowledge, skills and abilities: - A minimum of two years of previous experience or equivalent related to the management of staff, payroll, or scheduling.
- Comfortable using technology to support operations including, but not limited to Microsoft Office, database management, and learning new programs and software as needed.
- Ability to effectively complete detailed tasks in a busy environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community of guests, students and staff in a knowledgeable and helpful way.
- Must have a professional, problem-solving demeanor; excellent judgment; demonstrated ability to work independently; strong organizational skills; and the ability to effectively manage deadlines and multiple, competing priorities.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities: - Previous Food Service experience
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience working with unionized staff.
- ServSafe Certification.
- Experience in higher education or high-volume food service setting
Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Compensation The starting annual base salary range for this position is $60,405 - $62,389(USD)
